A Stich in Time...

The Beginning

(As these happened some time ago, these will be written in outline format. If enough interest exist,members can write a “stand out moment” that will be at the end of the log. You can write a paragraph or two about it and Ill insert it into the log. Fun way to contribute to the site. )

- Four adventurers
Edoria Willowtree, Harman Hranmnann, and the brothers Verdant and Iskandar Kazanan
- Came from different corners of the world to go to Douven’s training camp
– Camp is located near the summit of the Thunder Peaks in Comyr
– each have their reasons they do not share with each other

-Once at Douvens, he has them all meet
– says they were all brought here on the advice of someone called “The Man in Yellow”
– Douven does not know who he is
– He is interested to see why these four were asked to come here, so he will accept them


- The four were asked to see Douven

- Douven has a request for them
– A cave at the base of the mountain contains koblods
– they have been easly ignored for a while
– in the last few weeks, they have gotten more aggressive and causing damage on a nearby trade road
– wants the group to do it to "test’ them
– Douven would do it himself, but his focus is on another matter
– Tells group to keep all they find as the items have already been marked as destroyed
– tells group to go to fallcrest for a few days to relax and buy/sell items

The group goes to the cave
- they beat up Koblods
– In the last room, they find a secret door, but decide to camp first
– Harman leaves halfway into their rest due to personal reasons
– group goes into secret door, down some stairs, into a cave
- group finds a young white dragon (named Szartharrax)
– hatched a while ago, demand treasure or would eat kobolds
– dragon has a dagger impaled into his tail
– battle ensures
– group wins
- group finds a treasure chest
– keys is found in frozen water in the middle of the room
– also has the remains of some human
– Chest contained a green dragon skin, a jade statue, and other things

They load up what they can and head to fallcrest
- There, they meet Weld and Obrin
– they put up a notice on the job board, asking for help to rescue a friend (Kafka) after a botched attempt at stopping the kolbolds
– party meets them and they all discover the corpse in the dragon room was their friend.

The brothers Verdant and Iskandar had a big fight.
- Verdant wanted to go home to the forest and didn’t want to adventure anymore
- Iskandar wanted to keep adventuring and bring pride back into his race (Tieflings)
- After a big fight in the middle of town (and nearly getting arrested), Iskandar left the group.
- Weld and Obrin joined the group

The group goes to Moonstone Keep in town to request an audience with Lord Warden Faren Markelhay
- Group says they have something he wants
- Guards interpret this as they stole the jade statue and are now trying to bribe the Lord.
- Obrin tries to shoot a guard for looking “sketchy”. A rare DM Intervention prevented this.
- Group talks to Faren and gives statue back to him
- Faren gives to his youngest daughter (Melanie) as a late birthday present.
- Gives group some funds and a place to rest for the night.

Group talks to Teldorthan Ironhews (the blacksmith)
- Iskandar orders a helmet made of the dragon skull they have
- group asks if hes looking for something
- Said he wasn’t sure, but he think she just walked in the door (looking at Edoria)
- Edoria snaps and tells him to fuck off
- Teldorthan apologizes
- Group gives him dragonskin, he pays them

Group leaves for Douvens
- The group buys two horses and a wagon, and then head back to Douvens

The Missing Mentor
Where the fuck is Douven?

The group arrives at Douvens
- asked by the gate guard to go straight to Douvens ready room
- when there, they see the room has been tossed
– Douven’s wife, Trecna, meets the group there
– She asks if the group has seen/heard from Douven since they left, they say no
– She breaks down and cries
– He’s been missing for a few days
– A necklace she wears is bonded with his necklace, she doesnt feel the bond anymore
– Ether he took it off or is dead
– A letter is found in his ready room
– Its written to Douven
– Says that there is a dragon burial site near the town of Winterhaven.
– Wants to check it out with Douven for old times sake and may have a lead on
interesting item there
– Signed from “Val”
– Trecna does not know who that is
– Tasks the group to find Douven

Group leaves the next day to Winterhaven
– Along the way, kolbold ambush!
– Party battles with Kolbolds. Weld stays in cart
– During the battle, horses get spooked and run towards Edoria
– Edoria tries to calm down horses, doesnt work and gets trampled
– Weld uses reigns to stop horses. Then grabs a healing potion (in Edorias bag in the
cart) and brings her back from death.
– Weld tries to give Edoria money to cover the healing potion (feels like he didnt have
permission to use it). Edoria says its okay
-Group gets through it and gets to Winterhaven

Group goes to a local bar called Wrafton’s Inn
- The Warden of the town (Lord Padraig)
- After some Introductions, they ask Padraig if he knows anything about Val or Douven
– He says no and he knows much about the small village
– Group says they were going to a dragon burial ground
– Padraig is interested in this, and wonders if Val is Valthurn the Seer
– After some checking, finds out the Valthurn had a visitor the other night. He hasn’t
been seen since
– Padraig is concerned. Tells group where to find the burial ground
– Also tells them to watch out for Kolbolds in the area. Town doesn’t seem them
as a threat. Paidrag says if the group gets any bigger, they will be
– If group is successful, come back and talk to him about ending this annoyance
before it becomes a threat to the town
– As the group leaves, Padraig tells the group that “someone” else is looking for
him. A guard has had some problems with him and they should talk to him.

The group talks to the guard
- The guard (Thomas) says the stranger showed up a few days ago
– Says the guy looks sketchy as hell and knows hes up to something
– Found him standing over a little girl, her crying one day
– Tried to save her, she ran away from the monster and he used devil magic to keep him
– Wants the group to get rid of him (out of the town of course). The guy is standing by
Valthurn’s tower

Group talks to the stranger
– The stranger wears a cracked masqurade mask and is of few words
– He acts somewhat of a child, but more painfully shy and awkward (as if he’s scared of
making anyone mad)
– After some talking with Edoria, the group finds out that the stranger is looking for
directions to the dragons burial ground
– Group tries to get into Valthrusn tower, with interesting results. Yet are still locked
– Local guard asks whats going on. Group says thomas gave permission
– Thomas gets in trouble

Party is on its way to the burial ground
-Attacked by another group of kolbolds
- Got one of them to surrender
– Kolbold said they were sent by Irontooth
– Irontooth is mad that his group was destoryed, sent a kill squad
– Kolbold said that Irontooth was in a cave behind a waterfall
- Party deciding on what to do with him
– made some nasty jokes, Nilhus kills kolbold to “save” him
- Party decides to leave a message for Irontooth
– Dump bodies by a big rock
– Edoria write in Kolbold blood (in dragoconic) that Irontooth was next

Party arrives at burial ground
- A gnome is there, digging
- Some humans are sitting around watching, 2 drakes are sitting, and a ghostly apparitionis watching
- gnome invites party to come help dig
– Iskandar takes him up on the offer, is attacked
– battle ensures
– When gnome dies, he says “I failed you Kalarel”

Party wins
- see’s movement under a tarp
- under the tarp is Valthurn
– Edoria heals and feeds him, he is thankful
- Valthurn says he went there with Doven to check it out
– a group came when they were there and got jumped
– Douven was taken to a keep nearby
– Valthurn says there are stories about the keep and wants to look up more information at his tower in Winterhaven (hes a bit of a scholar)

Group takes Valthurn to Winterhaven

- Valthurns magic handle is missing, needs to make a new one
– While exploring town, Nihlus sees note on door
– Its from a little girl (Mallory) he helped a few days ago, thanking him
– he see’s Mallory with white paper mask on
– sees her playing with friends, reenacting a scenario that happens to Nihlus and a town guard (Thomas)
– kids scatter when Thomas assumes his post

After talking with the Lord of the town, they head to kill irontooth

New friends are made

- one gets away and goes behind waterfall into cave

- eventually, goblin with an iron tooth comes out

- Irontooth makes Edoria a hostage
– bullshit happens, Edoira gets away
– Says that Kalaral will open the portal and Orcus will swallow their souls
– Party wants to capture Irontooth, Ankea’s warhammer slips and she squashes his head
– Party recruits Ankea!!!

Party heads back into town
- See’s thomas taking paper mask from Mallory
– He balls it up and puts it in his bag
– Party confronts
– Thomas says that party and town is brainwashed by Nihlus
– A rukus happens
– Main town guard comes out of tavern, dimisses Thomas and apologizes to party
– Says there is a deva asking about the keep. Should talk to her
– party talks to deva (Kava) and recruits her

Group goes to Valthurn
– Groups meet in one of their rooms at the inn (Valthurn doesn’t like others inside his tower)
– Tells group about the keep
– The keep lies on an old rift to the Shadowfell
– A dark place where the soul goes after death to be judged by raven queen
(goddess of death)
– rift links to a temple of Orcus, prince of the undead
– Lots of monsters attacked, were pushed back by the Purple Dragons (elite army) by
– Wizards sealed rift
– To keep an eye on rift, a keep was built on top of it
– 80 years pass. Its peaceful. Winterhaven forms
– All was fine until one night
– Sir Jerold Kegan, Commander of the Keep
– At midnight one night, killed his family, trusted aids, fellow soldiers
– Soldiers finally rallied together and dispatched him
– fearing the rifts influence, Comyr ordered the keep abandoned and destroyed
– Kaleral must be trying to open the rift. Douven will be a sacrifice. It must be

The Introduction of Splug

- Group goes to keep in the middle of some woods
– Area around the keep is very quite, as if the woods is holding its breath

- Group enters keep
– In first room, group finds a stone colored tarp in middle of room. Everyone avoids.
Edoria goes to look what’s under it, fumbles and falls in. DM is happy

- Group finds a torture chamber.
– During the fight, the lead torturer runs to the cells and looks like he’s pleading with
someone. Something reaches out and kills torturer
– Group looks in and it’s a goblin.
– He’s against the wall, holding a sharp rock and watching intently
– Group asks his name, says Splug
– Splug was thrown in here for cheating at cards
– Wants revenge
– Can lead group to Balgrom the fat, leader of the goblins
– Group trusts him (really quick too)
- Lets him out. Lets him grab weapons and armor for others
- Watch him take an empty glass vial and smash inside a bag
- Says it’s to blind others
- Goblin leads group to the back entrance of Balgrom
- Big fight happens, Balgrom dies
- Splug sees other goblins in another area, runs after them. Not seen again
- Fight was loud, others are coming
- Group barricades door to heal, prepare
- Group kills the others

- Group goes into an area that is not “finished” like the keep
- cave walls, dirt and stone floor
- First room has a bunch of rats dropping from ceiling
- Fights a jelly creature that splits

- Group finds door that says “Stay out. Really”
- Group goes in (of course)
- Room has a bunch of water, small land in the middle
- Corpses on land. Edoria transports over
- A slime tentacle grabs her and pulls her underwater
- Big fight with slime. Takes a long time and lots of near deaths, but group defeats

- Finds two letters on corpse in middle
- One says to wet the nodule if Kaleral is not receptive to their offer. Wet it from a distance and run. It will consume everything it can reach
- Other letter says if Kalarel comes across humanoid captives, they will buy them. They are needed for digging and other labor. Wants him to send someone with them to discuss terms. Signed by Lord Master Falk, Master of the Golden Skills
- Group stays in cave area to rest and dry off

- Nihlus continues on in secret as he wants to keep going
- Nihlus goes to another area
- Finds a lot of tick like creatures
- Quickly gets overwhelmed and dies, gets devoured
- Group notices Nihlus is missing
- Group goes looking, finds the tick creatures
- Dangerous fight as they are still weak, defeats the ticks
- Finds Nihlus partially eater corpse
- Packs him up to get him resurrected

The Graveyard in Winterhaven
Spooky Scary

- Group goes back to Winterhaven
- Doors are closed
- Undead is coming out of the cemetery
- Group goes in town to resuppy and to drop off remains Nihlus

- At temple, they asks to have his mask removed, as it seems cursed on
- Priest tries, but mask flashes and a lot of writing appears on mask in a strange language
and fades
- Priestess says it look like the root to what written magic is today, dangerous to remove
- Says it will take a while
- Obrin breaks into a store for arrows, leaves money.
- Dragonborn stays to protect town, leaves group

- Group goes to take care of undead
- Undead is being led by Ninarin (Ignored Elvin Ranger in WInterhaven)
- Group dispatches undead, Ninarin runs into tomb
- Obrin follows, goes down a ladder that is in coffin
- At the bottom, he sees Ninarin touch the wall
- Wall lights up with runs, a bunch of wooded barrels is in wall
- Barrels start exploding, Obrin runs up ladder
- Obrin barely makes it

- After battle, group finds a letter that Ninarin dropped
- Note is from Kaleral
- Says he received her reports on adventures. Says the goblins should take care of them. If not, he included instructions to raise the dead and destroy the town/kill the group. Also says if she comes to the second level of the keep, she knows that the pass phrase is “From the ground, some magic is found”. Letter also has a drawing of the magic circle Ninarin used to raise dead.

Nihlus's Path
What the fuck did you do Nihlus?

- Group comes back to help with ritual
- Mallory says why Nihlus is missing? Is he hurt? Can she help? Can she see him
- Group tell her she can help by praying in temple. Does so

- Group helps with ritual
- Gets in circle and passes orb to one another to try and coax the soul back

- Nihlus is in a field in the afterlife
- Lots of paths one can take
- A lady is behind him
- Her name is Macha, she is the messenger for the Mistress of Winter and the lady of fate (Raven Queen)
- Says he is here due to his fanaticism and extreme views of Avandra
- She asks if he has memory problems. He does and asks why. She says it must be the reason why he didn’t remember having this exact conversation with her before

- Gets show the path he’s going to take in after life
- Land is of hellscape. Only one path instead of many
- Discovers he is dressed as royalty, holding a scepter he can’t drop and wearing a a crown. Both are too heavy and hurt, but can’t be dropped
- Right hand and right eye is missing and bloody
- On either side of path are people in masks and all in black
- They bow to him as they pass
- They start with a whisper, but end up screaming “Hail to the one eyed king. The one to see and feel”
- Another flash of white light happens and he’s back in front of Macha

- Says there is still time to change
- Raven Queen wants to give another chance, still time to change
- Nihilus keeps questioning the gods, Macha gets annoyed
- Finally he goes back

October 2nd, 2015
Faith, Steve, Mike, Sarah

Group leaves Nihlus at temple. He is weak from resurrection
- Group runs into Mallory in the pews
- She wants to see him, group says he needs to rest
- Suggest she goes home and eats. She agrees so they will be both strong enough to play later

Group goes back to inn
- Lots of people are at the inn scared, asks if its safe yet
- Kava says to be vigilant still
- Group goes to sleep to recover

Group wakes at two in the morning
- Lots of guards on patrol in town, some look to be conscripted
- Talks to guards (a young guy and older guard) guarding closed door out of town
- Young guy is new, says older ones are patrolling the graveyard and surrounding paths
- Obrin gives young guy an arrow, young guy is ecstatic (they’re heroes!!!) and puts it in his belt

Group leaves for Keep
- As a security measure, group has Kava walk by herself with a sun rod wrapped up, only shining light in front of her and to the sides.
- Group stays behind her in darkness
- See a few guards here and there, but nothing really happens

Group gets back to the keep
- Sees a few goblins that are dead. They were not the ones to kill them.
- One is impaled to wall, one was strangled with chain,
- One has glass dust in eye and a wound in chest
- Group believes it must have been slug
- Kava checks vitals, sees it is still alive but barley
- Edoria wants to heal him to ask questions about the keep and of Splug
- Kava wants to put it out of its misery
- While group discusses it rationally, Kava decapitates it like a FUCKING BOSS!!!
- (DM didn’t expect that outcome. He did have info they would have wanted. oh well)

Group finds a room with multiple paths
- Kava sneaks down a hallway to investigate these paths.
- One has a strange symbol on ground. Couldn’t tell what it was as they were too far away.
- She sneaks, silent as the night and see some zombies
- Group fights zombies. Group wins.
- Obrin attempts his patented show off flip. Fumbles and falls, hurting himself.

Group finds a hallway lined with ten sarcophagi.
- Though the area is in complete darkness, they see a room at the end of the hall bathed in light
- Sees Draconic script on sarcophagi. Cant decipher it.
- Edoria makes noises of battle with ghost sound, but nothing happens
- Obrin busts ass toward light, Sarcophagi spring open and skeletons pop out
- Every so often, more skeletons pop up
- Obrin gets on top of a sarcophagus and attacks from on top of it. Fumbles again and falls off.
- Edoria pushes a skeleton warrior into the light. The skeleton drops his sword and slowly walks away from light. Once out, it heads straight toward the group to attack them again.
- Edoria wants group to get into lighted room, but no one can make it.
- Edoria also took a double crit to her wrist. She gets pissed and starts to feel her rage build and her right wrist starts to heat up
- Finally, skeletons stop coming out and the group is victorious.

Group investigates room.
- Glass dome on top of the room depicting a dragon in flight. Meant to represent Bahumut
- Obrin opens door at the end of the room and sees one more sarcophagus.
- Kava and Edoria investigates shrines in the room. They are to Bahumut and contain Draconic script. It says that Bahumut will help those who need it, all they need to do is pray.
- Kava does so. Light extends to the whole hallway.
- Edoria prays for her wrist. Will take less healing surges to fix.
- End of Session

Other neat moments

- Mike asks DM about famous acrobats and luchadores and roles a history check. Finds out about Samuel “Doubleflip” Johnson and The Masked One: El Chupa Libre.

Samuel was a somewhat well known acrobat who would do two flips in the air without a running start or jumping of anything. Legend says he went for the “In Air 900”, but fell on his neck and died.

El Chupa Libre’s claim to fame was going from the wrestling world to the adventuring world. He was known to pill drive skeletons and body slamming zombies. One day, he decided to walk away from the game. He took off his mask one day, and just went to do something else. As no one saw him without his mask on, no one knows who he is, or if hes still out there.

- Group tested a new setup for the board. Instead of a whilteboard and magnets, the DM used a TV hooked up to a computer running “roll20”. Though there were some small problems (that are being worked on), the test was a success.

- Obrin ripped an arm off a skeleton and hit the same skeleton with it, shattering it. Obrin swore he heard a noise that sound like a ball hiring a bat and the distant sounds of a crowd cheering

New features will be introduced as time goes on.

The Resting Area of Sir Keegan

Group enters a small room with a coffin
- Notices etchings on coffin is a lot cleaner than on other coffins
- Etchings is of a man with a sword. No religious markings
- Group discusses opening it. Decides not to
- Edoria and Kava start to leave, Iskandar uses his tail to try and open it.
Coffin lid starts banging and explodes.
- A skeleton in plate armor and a symbol of bahamut stands up
- Says he will not allow the rift to open and will kill all who try
- Group tries to show skeleton they are on his side
Skill Challenge
- The group uses religion, acrobatics, intimidation, and diplomacy
- Group succeedes
- Skeleton is Sir Keegan
- The madness of the rift drove him to kill all, he stayed down here to punish himself
- Cannot cross over to the other side due to grief and unfinished business
- Sir Keegan cannot do much, but gives group his sword Aceris, a sword of platinum
- Sir Keegan is convinced group can succeed, feels hope for the first time and falls apart
Group goes north
- Finds some of the tiles have runes on them
- Know that if they are touched, a loud alarm will sound
- Obrin jumps over a few to see whats around
- Iskandar stays nearby Obrin but does not cross runes
- Edoria and Kava explore on their own, asking obrin to ether come back or wait
- Obrin does neither and explores
Iskandar makes a noise, and some shuffling and moaning is heard
- Obirn attacks noise, sees a lot of zombies
- Obrin and Iskandar starts fighitng them
- Obrin makes a double crit on a zombie, zombie falls into a wall and it moves a little
- Eventually Kava and Edoria hear fighting and come to help
- Edoria sees zombies walk on runes and nothing happens
- Edoria steps on it, a ghostly wail is heard
- Edoria, Kava, and Iskandar are affected by it and run toward the lighted room out of a fear effect
- Eventually shake it off and go back to help Obrin, who pretty much handled the situation.
Obrin investigates wall that moved
- Sees its a secret door
- Leads to a small room with nothing in it
- Obrin investigates a piece of the wall. While nothing special about it, he sees there may be something to the right of it.
- That’s when zombies seem to materialize from the walls and surround the elf, beating him.
- Group hears commotion and comes to help
- Group wins eventually
- Pass the Illusory wall, group finds a worn suit of armor.
- A voice booms out, giving them a riddle
- Kava solves it in three seconds
- Armor glows and becomes whole again.

End of session

The Second Floor
Fight EVERYONE!!!!

Sarah, Steve, Faith, Mike

Group rests in a secret room
- Sees the stairs to the next floor
- Steve sneaks and lays on steps to see guards at bottom of steps.
- Edoria wants to look, but fails sneak check
– Guards hear and ask if anyone is there
Iskandar has a plan
- Chain Edoria and Kava’s hands
- Iskandar wears armor that makes him look bad
- Iskandar will act like he captured these two
- Will hold edorias sword, Kava’s will be on stairs
- Obrin will sneak behind them
Group goes downstairs and is given a challenge phrase by hobgoblins
- Iskandar says password from dropped Ninarin note
- One screams “Ninarin has been defeated. Alert Kalarel”.
- Two hobgoblins run to a back room where a huge spider is caged and gets released in a few turns
- Spider jumps and Edoria and tries to bite her, misses
- Spider gets greatly injured and runs away
- After battle, one is captured alive
He is given a potion and is questioned
- His name is Jib Jub
- Is asked about the floor, tells them that the warchief “Kylor” is done here
- Says slaves are taken directly south but never goes there
- “those that go down never come back. I never go down.”
Was asked about Splug
- Said Splug (Aka Splug the Blade) was their leader
- A year ago, humans came to use basement, gave them gold
- Undead and other unpleasant things started appearing from below
- Splug wanted to stop him. What he was doing would bring death to them all
- When he slept, his brother (Balrog the Fat) and others mutineys and throws him in torture chamber
- Balrog is now leader. Says to stay on the undead’s good side and they will be rewarded.
Group tells him to go get Kylor
- Edoria heals him more
- Jib Jub goes to a room to the East
- A few seconds pass. Someone is stabbed offscreen.
- Group needs a new plan
Iskandar has another plan
- Starts yelling for Kylor to come out and greet Ninarin
- Edoria tries to disguise her voice and covers her face.
- Other hobgoblins come out to see what they want
- Iskandar yells at them, Hobgoblins leave
- Hobgoblin with scale armor and a big spear appears
- Warlord asks why they are bothering to be in this section
- Looks at the fake Edoria and says “what is your last name?”
- He figures its a trap and runs back
- Group follows
Two encounters happen at the same time.
- Lots of hobgoblins
- Eventually, group tries to go north
- Iskandar gets trapped in room to the north when door is closes and barred
- Group eventually breaks it down
- Iskandar is held hostage on the ground
- Edoria tried to talk out of it and used her Command power
- Hobgoblins got slid into each other, Iskandar crawed away
Warchief says he has had enough and is letting them go with their lives
